Ex‑libris

I create ex libris using the technique of lithography - stone printing.

The word ex libris comes from Latin and means "from the books". This is a small decorative card, which, in addition to the artistic motif, also contains the name of the ex libris and the name of the customer. Ex libris were affixed to books to identify their owners.

Already in the Middle Ages, some book marks had an artistic level (e.g. Albrecht Dürer). From the end of the 19th century, book marks began to be used not only to indicate the owner of books, but also became an object of interest for collectors.

The subject matter of the ex libris is diverse. It is often a representation of the client's profession or interests in the field of art or literature, etc.

Today, these small graphic prints (mostly up to A5 size) are exchanged by collectors all over the world.

Czech collectors have been united since 1918 by the ex libris Association of Collectors and Friends.
